The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn is a beautiful picture book which I could not resist mentioning because all too soon it will be time to return to school or to start for the first time.  This book is perfect to share as a gift with young children (and nervous parents!). The Kissing Hand tells the story of Chester Raccoon, his apprehension about school, and the clever solution which keeps his Mother’s love close throughout the school day.

This title, first published in 1993, is a much beloved classic.  In fact, it is featured in this Online Storyline Online site from the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.  I found that free resource at a WE are TEACHERS post offering 10 Free Classroom Resources for Teachers. Check them out if you are a parent of young children or an educator.

I have been thinking about reading today (see an earlier post below) and wanted to share this link offering suggested Strategies for Summer Reading for Children with Dyslexia.  Reading is SO important for all of us.… Still looking for ideas to share with a child? Don’t forget to check out your local public library or these ideas from New York Public Library!  Here is to fun in the sun and a wonderful start to the next adventure whether it be a virtual one through your imagination and a book or a real trip to camp or school!
